چکیده

Hyaff 11 R , a material derived from hyaluronic acid with interesting applications as a scaffold for tissue engineering, is made porous by salt leaching and mechanically tested in simple tension and confined compression. The tests revealed a different behavior in tension and compression, a feature common to other foamed materials. The difference between the behavior in tension and compression is such that the material cannot be modeled with a traditional constitutive law, thus an implicit constitutive equation valid for finite deformations is formulated, and a suitable selectivity criterion is proposed in order to distinguish the behavior in tension from that in compression. The results of the model are compared with the experimental findings both in simple tension and in confined compression, yielding a good fitting with five material parameters. c © 2007 Elsevier Ltd. A bimodular theory for finite deformations: Comparison of orthotropic second-order and exponential stress constitutive equations for articular cartilage.

Cartilaginous tissues, such as articular cartilage and the annulus fibrosus, exhibit orthotropic behavior with highly asymmetric tensile-compressive responses. Due to this complex behavior, it is difficult to develop accurate stress constitutive equations that are valid for finite deformations. Therefore, we have developed a bimodular theory for finite deformations of elastic materials that all...

A comparative study on constitutive modeling of hot deformation flow curves in AZ91 magnesium alloy

Modeling the flow curves of materials at elevated temperatures is the first step in mathematical simulation of the hot deformation processes of them. In this work a comparative study was provided to examine the capability of three different constitutive equations in modeling the hot deformation flow curves of AZ91 magnesium alloy. For this, the Arrhenius equation with strain dependent constants...

Modeling of the beam discontinuity with two analyses in strong and weak forms using a torsional spring model

In this paper, a discontinuity in beams whose intensity is adjusted by the spring stiffness factor is modeled using a torsional spring. Adapting two analyses in strong and weak forms for discontinuous beams, the improved governing differential equations and the modified stiffness matrix are derived respectively. In the strong form, two different solution methods have been presented to make an a...

Least Squares Support Vector Machine for Constitutive Modeling of Clay

Constitutive modeling of clay is an important research in geotechnical engineering. It is difficult to use precise mathematical expressions to approximate stress-strain relationship of clay. Artificial neural network (ANN) and support vector machine (SVM) have been successfully used in constitutive modeling of clay. However, generalization ability of ANN has some limitations, and application of...

Genetic Algorithm-based Optimization Procedures to Find the Constants of Johnson-Cook Constitutive Equation

Johnson-Cook constitutive equation is one of the most famous constitutive equations that have ever been developed to model the hot deformation flow curves of different materials. This equation is a predefined model in the traditional finite element codes to describe the material behavior in applications such as simulating the manufacturing processes. In this work, two different genetic algorith...
